Day 4 - Oswald West camp

Great camping!!

sunny 15 °C

This is a campground to remember! Anyone going down the coast should make time to check out this campground! http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_195.php

Had a super goofy night with lots of giggling and silliness (imagine that?!) We had a bit of a party crew also in the campground, but it didn't keep us from a good nights sleep. (you know how those surfers can be!)

Who are these people?!

After a good night sleep and an early morning, we loaded up the truck and headed 4 miles south to Manzanita for some coffee (yes poor Sherry is the only one with this addiction!) and then Anne went on ahead in the truck to Tillamook, while Sara and Sherry headed out on the ride.

Hwy 101 in Oregon is a great road to bike on, lots of room on the shoulder and everyone is very aware of bikers. I can't think of a better way to go.

All in all we went about 26 miles to Tillamook, meeting up with Anne, just outside of Garibaldi and then heading to the Tillamook Cheese Factory.

Guess I (Sherry) was a bit hungry! But no one was as excited about the cheese as Sara!!

After cheesing it up, we all were pretty full and sleepy, so after about a 1.5 hour nap. We loaded up the bikes and headed towards Lincoln City. It was alot more comfortable than it looks in the photo!

There was plenty of time, and good weather to ride more so Sara and Anne got on their bikes about 10 miles outside of town. Little did they know, there was a long steep hill climb ahead of them. From sea level to 752 in just under 2 miles!

What biking studs these two are!! Cheers girls!

After a late night at the pub, we headed south to find a place to park the truck and sleep in the back. We stayed at Devils punchbowl day-use state park. It was a bit of a squeeze for us all in the truck, but we were so tired that it didn't matter much! (its a good thing we like each other!)

semi-overcast 19 °C

cannonbeach.jpg

Well we actually got to riding today, finally! It was raining all the way from Portland this morning, but once we got to Cannon Beach and got our gear on the clouds broke and the sun came out to play.

Being our maiden voyage, we took it slow and did a trip out 7 miles to Hug Cove and played for a while on the beach.

Look Laura, the dance classes are doing wonders for Sara don't you think?!

After a couple hours we headed back to Cannon Beach (14 miles round trip) to pick up some groceries and plan our camping spot for the night.
Now we're off to Oswald West camp ground!

Day 2 - Portland

rain 12 °C

We arrived in Portland yesterday to stay with Saucy Susan! We had a inspired night out at the Kennedy School (one of the many cool McMenamins bars in Oregon). Beautiful renovated old elementary school, with an amazing amount of artistic details, community soaking tub, movie theater with overstuffed chairs and couches instead of regular seats. They also have a great restaurant that lets you bring the food in the movie with you. We watched the movie Pan's Labyrinth, it was really good, but very dark. At dinner, Sara tried one of their milk shakes made with McMenamins Porter (actually pretty good!)

Too bad we were so "in the moment" that we didn't take any photos! (BUMMER!)

We enjoyed a fun & silly time back at Susan's warm and inviting home, where we spent our last good night sleep in a bed.

Thanks Susan!!

Met with my friend James for breakfast before heading out of Portland this morning. Looking forward to seeing you this summer in Chelan!
